Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the third-party company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies the result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, we retain the message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers may automatically receive technical information about that visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- Your device's assigned IP address
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Visited pages and time spent on them
- The referring website, when one exists
Cookies and Analytics
This site uses cookies, which are small files placed on a device. They help show aggregated patterns such as popular pages and points where visits end. Analytics providers assist with that measurement. You may block cookies through browser controls, although doing so can change how parts of the site function.
What We Do With This Data
- Directing a query to the selected search provider
- Operating the site and maintaining page speed
- Finding and correcting technical problems
- Understanding which pages visitors use most
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Hickman County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official routes to records kept by the Hickman County Sheriff's Department, local courts, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. The Tennessee Public Records Act, T.C.A. §§10-7-501 et seq., governs access to qualifying government records, subject to exceptions. The Tennessee Sexual Offender and Violent Sexual Offender Registration, Verification and Tracking Act, T.C.A. §§40-39-201 et seq., governs registry dissemination and use. Neither law turns this private site into a government custodian. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or dossiers about third parties.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes found on some pages. Their privacy policies, not this policy, govern information entered into those tools. Each provider chooses its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before submitting a query because we do not control them.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff, court, Tennessee agency, legal-aid, or outside search websites. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising partners may measure activity across websites to select targeted ads. That processing takes place on the partner's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics vendors measuring site traffic and performance
- Search providers processing queries sent through their tools
- Advertising networks serving ads on site pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards are used to protect collected data. No internet-connected system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided personal information, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Privacy and consumer-protection rights vary by where a visitor lives and by the law that applies. The Tennessee Public Records Act concerns records held by government entities, not visitor data held by this private site. Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to:
- Provide a copy of personal information kept about you
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Delete personal information where required
- Honor available opt-out rights for certain processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. An updated version will appear here with a new effective date, so periodic review is appropriate.
